Militainment discusses the increasing cooperation between military and popular culture. In the book’s introduction, Stahl mentions an army recruiting video game America’s Army. Over the years, more and more war themed video games have been developed for pleasure and recruiting.

In Militainment, Stahl talks about the connections between video games and war.War video games are a very popular. These types of video games are one of my favorites to play. War video games do not depict the tolls of war and they idealize war. When people play these war games they see it as fun without realizing or considering there is a harsh side to war. I have fun playing these games. When you get killed in a video game, you respawn so it is normal and not a big deal to the player. In last week’s response, I talked about postmodern adventures. Recent war video games have content about war in an imagined future. The worlds in these war games have new inventions in warfare and futuristic weapons. Similar to postmodern adventure movies, the game creators create a modern world with modern technology and weapons. They create a storyline for their campaign based on their world and advances. Some examples of these futuristic war video games include Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty Black Ops 3 and Call of Duty Infinite Warfare. Recently however, game companies have been making more war games about the past because of complaints about futuristic war video games, especially Call of Duty Infinite Warfare, from the gaming community. War games about the past seem to be the most popular. Most of the war games take place during World War 2. These games idealize World War 2 and the players do not think about the tolls that the war had on the countries, the soldiers and the civilians involved, while playing the games.
