Pacific Northwest Brewery Tours

(Independence, OR)

This location is one of the most interesting spots to drink beer in the Willamette Valley. It’s amazing location makes this spot an ideal end to a motorcycle tour, a bike ride, or a river float (although sometimes this option is frowned upon-check with the brewery before heading out on the river-I’ve gotten mixed information). There is also a farm house available for rent for events or individual rooms. Corn hole and other games sit on a lawn surrounded by hops. Sometimes a wandering chicken will distract errant children. The only negative aspect of this particular brewery is the limited food choices. At one time they allowed picnics, which made this location a perfect location, however they don’t offer this any more.

Beer to try: Hazelnut Brown

Address: 3590 Wigrich Rd, Independence, OR 97351

Phone: (503) 838–9813

Although, not a brewery, Mecanico does provide a selection of locally brewed beer. The main attraction here is the food and atmosphere. A former auto shop, this location is unique in several ways. Descent BBQ is provided by the establishment, but several food trucks rim the edge of the property, providing tasty bites inspired by local fare. The seating/eating area is an eclectic blend of fire pits, corn hole, ladder golf, and overlooks a city park, making this stop ideal for families.

Food to try: sausage/hot dog with bacon and pulled pork (oink).

Beer to try: Constantly rotating

Address: 87 S Main St
Independence, Oregon, OR 97351

Phone: (971) 267–6006

Again, not a brewery, but they do have a wide selection of beer, wine, and lovely unique cocktails. This eatery has a Portland feel without being over-priced. Located in a historic building the atmosphere blends rustic style with a modern twist. The menu is not usually what you would find in a small village on the Willamette River, making it a destination for people from the surrounding towns. Brunch is especially good.

Drink to try: Bloody Mary (they have a Bloody Mary bar for brunch)

Food to try: 3LD chicken wings (ask for the raspberry chipotle sauce). The Thai peanut sauce marinade takes regular chicken wings to a new level.

Address: 250 S. Main Street, Independence, OR

Phone: 503.837.0012
