Final Proposal

For my final I hoped to collect data regarding New York City’s water consumption today and how it compares to the past. According to NYC Open Data, the amount of water we’ve consumed since the 1970’s has decreased by about 100 gallons per NYC resident while the population has increased.

Through datasets posted by the NYC open data and through research regarding water consumption patterns, I’ll find out why the amount of water consumption has lowered, how higher environmental monitoring has effected that number, and what factors contribute to the amount of water used each year.

Audience:

My main audience would be New York residents who are concerned about their water consumption and how their daily actions may contribute to the city’s yearly gallon count.

Those who are also generally concerned about the environment and the ways in which humans effect its state would also find interest in this data.

Design:

For my overall design and layout I would like to use then and now charts in regards to water consumption in everyday life (ie. gallons of water used in the toilet, shower, washing machine, etc.).

I would like to use graphics to put into perspective the amount of water used daily and yearly.
