In light of the recent coronavirus (COVID-19), governments recommend practicing social distancing where we stay away from people and self-quarantine.

Unless you are infected with COVID-19 or some other medical condition (or have family who is), this global pandemic is a blessing in disguise.

There are no more distractions or social obligations. We’re even discouraged from going out.

That means if we previously spent time doing things outside with other people, we are now spending time to ourselves indoors.

When was the last time you reflected on life? Read a book? Pursued your hobby?

Well, now you probably have more free time than you can handle.

There are certain dangers of being stuck indoors for an extended period with a bunch of free time. There are things that you want to avoid at all costs.

So we can’t do in-person entertainment like going to sporting events or concerts. But we still have our online and virtual entertainment options.

It may be tempting to just watch Netflix and play video games all day long because it’s so easy, automatic, and passive.

But this form of passive leisure is just wasteful. It doesn’t contribute to our wellbeing in any meaningful way and occupies a stupid amount of time.

Occasionally is okay, but don’t make this your default.

When we stay indoors all day long, time can sometimes feel like a blur.

It will take additional effort to fight against this feeling of timelessness.

Hold yourself to a somewhat regular schedule and don’t lose control. It can be easy to sleep at 3 am and get up at noon. But this is unhealthy, and will only harm you, especially after the crisis is…
