How to Monitor Your Online Reputation in 2021?

How to Monitor Your Online Reputation in 2021

To understand how online reputation works, compare it with building a house brick by brick. Now, what happens if one of the bricks is cracked? The house is likely to crumble or have a weak foundation. The online reputation of a business works in the same way. One crack in it is enough for the complete social destruction of the business. This is why it is essential to monitor the online reputation and ensure that it is clean and aligns with the business’s overall values.

Monitoring online reputation is watching out for everything that is published online related to the brand. It will include everything, right from the social media accounts to any brand mentions and news published online. Also, online reputation monitoring will help a business identify potential pitfalls beforehand so that the situation doesn’t go out of control.

A business’s online presence is pervasive in the current scenario. That’s why a significant number (52.1%) of survey participants believe it to be an important reason to monitor a brand’s online presence.

The list of platforms on which a brand can be present is never-ending. It also means that there are tons of platforms where customers can find out about a business. The challenge with so many platforms is to keep track of what is being said about the business. If the customer’s opinion is all positive on the platforms, it will work well for the business. But on the other hand, if even a single platform has some negative reviews about the business, then it will cost the business some potential customers and a lot more in the long run.

The good old word-of-mouth publicity is relevant in the digital world too. The only difference is that earlier word of mouth meant personally communicating the review to near and dear ones. Now, word of mouth is the reviews of people on online platforms about a business. As word of mouth continues to play an important role, 45.1% of business owners consider it a crucial reason to monitor a brand’s online presence.

Regardless of the industry, every business wins and loses customers even before the potential ones set foot in their store. More often than not, the decision to do business with a brand is made without ever engaging with the business directly. All this is because of the review websites. Given their importance, 56.3% of business experts consider them as among the most important platforms to monitor for online reputation.

While marketing a business these days, a marketer deals with educated customers who will do their research on review sites and don’t care much about what the business has to say about itself. They will take into consideration the opinions of others when they don’t have friends and family to ask for recommendations. Therefore, with review sites in the picture, being number one on Google is not enough to gain customers’ trust.

GoodFirms surveyed 284 small business owners.
