Captures

A little capture of what have been going on with me. Gives me the time to reflect as well as a chance to sharpen my writing.

So, 2020, 25 years old.

Got my first job. Can proudly said I have earned it.

Then COVID happened, lost my job. Gained a friend. Gained free time because of that. Then got a new job, exciting but also full of unknowns. Ended up loving it, what a bless.

Because of the free time, I have a tons of time to work on myself. I got challenged by my new friend, just by him observing and asking the right question. I got a coach, and a therapist, at the same time working on my most profound issue/tendency. I was working tirelessly for this, and still am. Overcoming your own long ingrained image of who you were takes a lot of effort and time. Obviously, I cannot wait to be over it. My coach always tells me to be gentle with myself.

I think if I were myself before, working remotely will take an immense toll on my emotional well-being, because I will analyze, over-analyze and get depressed. Because I have a healthier sense of who I am, who gets to affect me and who doesn’t, catches myself when I am derailing, I feel much more focused, more certain and more productive because of it. Today, I helped put out fire, figuratively, after just working there for 2 months. I felt a little accomplished by that fact. Also the fact that my team gave me very good feedback, and that I got to finish my first dashboard and it actually became very helpful to key stakeholders of different subsystems. So, that is to emphasize that the work that I did to invest in myself is helping me succeeding at work.

I read a book by Jim Rohn. Actually, I listened to his tape on “The Art of Extraordinary Living”. I am actually following a lot of the advice he gave: making through his recommended books (lots of them), build my personal philosophy, invest in myself, make goals, etc. Very good advices came in the right time of my life. Thank you.

I also have “read” more. For some reason, reading puts me to sleep, I can engage better with listening. But anyhow, I have been “reading” more. I finished maybe 5 or 6 books and in the genres that I have never really read before. Maybe good to make a list for everyone to see:

Right now, I’m working on:

I usually like to listen to multiple books. Based on the mood, I will choose which one I should listen to.

Educated taught me a different point of view on education. Many people have taken it for granted, myself included. However, for some people, it is a way to learn about life, to learn who they are and who they could be.

The Goal. This is about manufacturing. It was nice to be able to take a peek into the mind of a Plant Manager.

The Alchemist. A nice book that motivates one to listen to one’s heart. Has so many good quotes.

The Body Keeps the Score. I read this book because I wanted to use it to work on my own childhood “trauma”. I learned a lot about how trauma affected children more than adults, how it forms a life-long habits/assumptions that one cannot really get rid of, how ones even forget their own memories to protect themselves, and, the different techniques to face my own trauma.

12 Rules for Life. A good book. I bought a paper copy so that I could refer to later on. Good rules for any growing adults.

Atlas Shrugged. Pretty controversial book. But perhaps, the author’s style really fits me as it works on me really well. Still working on it though, less than 1/3 way through (it is a 60 hours long recording).

That’s it for now.

I have been running, about 3 nights a week on average. Feels good to be physically active, a de-stressor for me.

Also, have been cooking at home. Been making such big variety of food that I don’t even crave restaurant’s food that much anymore. Although I don’t like cooking, it is important for me to cook because I want to eat more vegan food, less oil, less sodium, more veggies, small portions, etc. So, the kitchen here I go.

That was a lot. Maybe I will add more when I am less sleepy.
