Day 6

We arrived back to the mainland and got a bus back to the city. After we checked in to our hotel we ventured out to experience the food, the people, the buzzing, honking, the good smells/bad smells and the utter chaos that is the Vietnamese capital , Ha Noi 🇻🇳

First tip. Step into the street and keep going. Do not stop — just trust that the thousands of vehicles won’t hit you. Quite a challenge for us westerners coming from fairly polite and orderly traffic control. Never any bad vibes in their driving, but rather aggressive patience.

On the agenda today was a self-orchestrated food tour. We planned our own little tour that started out with Chá Ca which is delicious fried white fish and vegetables that you fry yourself on a table grill. We got 1 portion and 2 beers ~ 8 usd.

Next stop was Bahn Mi. This is a French remnant from the colonial times and is a French roll filled with vegetables, meats, lots of cilantro and chills. We got a vegetarian one with tofu to share ~ 1 usd.

For the main course we found the highly rated snail noodle soup. Ea wasn’t pleased with eating snails and meats and wanted no part in it. The place was not the cleanest looking joint, so again it was a bit of a gamble of the gut. 1 soup ~1.5 usd.

Ea’s turn to choose the next course. Crab rolls and Vietnamese spring rolls from a ‘proper’ restaurant. The only place that wasn’t a street joint. Here, we also had some nice wine, so the price was a little higher ~ 20 dollars.

Last stop = Food coma

Another travel day and getting ready for the much anticipated Hoi An. We started the day with another stroll, some more crab rolls, a pho, some beers 🍻 certainly on vacation and the vacation bodies are starting to make their inevitable appearance.

Evening flight to Hoi An and late check-in to our hotel, but to a super lux and very honeymoony room. This time we got the full treat. Champagne, cake, free massages, discounts and a dance and a song 💃🏼 this is going to be a real treat for the next three days.
