Open the Gates to Moving Abroad!

Do it successfully, do it right!

Moving abroad may seem like a long lost dream to some especially in these unprecedented times.

Yet moving abroad hasn’t stopped everyone! You can be part of it too!

In our business we meet people from all over the world & thankfully these times haven’t stopped people from taking sabbaticals, working/moving abroad or simply getting away for a weekend.

Here’s what I’ve learnt upon reflection of moving abroad & 10 tips to consider to do it successfully.

Create a vision board, write it down, do a voice note to yourself, whatever method you prefer, just plan it! Without a plan, things can go sailing in a very unknown territory. This is an important starting point that you can refer back to & reflect on with a feeling of a major achievement.

My husband & I took a sabbatical to see what it’s like to live abroad in our desired destination. A holiday doesn’t give you enough to grip on to the reality of the lifestyle.

We learnt a lot about the place by staying in 3 different locations (in the area we were interested in relocating to) & by intermingling with the locals. We opened a bank account, visited the dentist & checked out the A&E, travelled around to get a real feel of what life could be if we decided to move abroad. I highly recommend doing a sabbatical if you haven’t already lived in your dream destination for 6 months or longer.

Tip for this — It can be done by using existing savings or saving up for a year. It’s essential if you are paying for a home abroad as well as back home and you want sufficient money to enjoy yourself too!
